BMW has taken the engine from the M 1000 RR and built a limited-run naked around it. The M 1000 RS starts from the M 1000 R with M Competition equipment, adds more superbike hardware and stops at 1,000 examples worldwide. The RS badge means Rennsport here, and the riding position and equipment are central to the changes.
The M RR connection
The 999cc inline-four is rated at 218PS in European specification. US bikes are quoted at 205hp, so American buyers have a different output figure to work with. BMW's European engine description lists titanium valves and a higher compression ratio, with peak power arriving at 14,500rpm. Claimed European DIN mass is 196kg; the US curb-weight figure is 432lb.

A taller, more forward riding position
The seat sits at 850mm, 20mm higher than on the M 1000 R, and the footrest system comes from the M RR. That moves the rider into a more forward-focused position while retaining a naked bike's handlebar layout. BMW also carries over the superbike's rear end, giving the RS a distinct silhouette behind the tank.

The carbon and titanium are standard
Carbon wheels and Dynamic Damping Control are standard, alongside M brakes, a full-titanium exhaust and matt-carbon winglets. The specification combines lighter components with electronically controlled damping, giving the RS a substantial chassis package to go with the engine.

The finish is deliberately dark: matt carbon around a brushed aluminium tank, RS lettering and an Alcantara-look seat with embroidery. The handlebar and upper yoke carry a '1 of 1000' marking.

Road equipment and prices
Road equipment includes heated grips, cruise control, tyre-pressure monitoring and Keyless Ride. Riding Modes Pro, the quickshifter and M Track Package are included too. A passenger package, lower seat and small screen are among the accessories, so buyers can change the standard bike's fit and practicality.
